Disneyland DAPPER DAY: How Will You Show Your Swanky Vintage Style

If you missed DAPPER DAY at Disneyland this year, you don’t need to fret. You’ll have more chances to participate in this fashion-focused gathering. DAPPER DAY at the Parks will return to California in September, and it’ll take place next spring as well. This means you have plenty of time to find your inner fashionista so that you can enjoy the Disney parks in high style.

What Is DAPPER DAY?

This event essentially pays tribute to the fashion trends of times gone by. Guests are invited to pull out all the stops and dress to impress in classic vintage attire. Although the styles range from the early 1900s to the 1980s, many people opt for the affluent 20s look. It’s up to you to decide which era you feel most connected to. Are you a flapper at heart, or is your personality more psychedelic?

Whether you’re hip and happening, totally tubular or the bee’s knees, you just need to dress in your Sunday best for DAPPER DAY. Then you can stroll along Main Street U.S.A. with all the other dandies and darlings. There are several themed activities to participate in, and the gathering seems to get better each year. Even with the brief rainfall this March, people from all over the country had a blast showing off their fashion flair.

How Should You Dress for the Occasion?

You’ll see a vast assortment of snazzy outfits at the parks, from pinup glamorous to hippie chic. If you want to be all the rage, think about which trend appeals to you and amplify the pizzazz. Have you dreamed of running with the Rat Pack? Consider donning a gray suit and vest with a matching fedora, but tip the fedora forward and wear a vibrantly colored shirt. Bow ties, suspenders and seersucker suits are also fun options.

Women have even more choices and can go wild with accessories such as oversized Jackie O sunglasses, pearls, elbow-length silk gloves and neck scarves. Break out the back-seam stockings, cardigans, crinoline skirts or capris for your foundation, then work around those. This event is about rocking any classic style, but it’s also about being comfortable. If you feel like a fuddy-duddy rather than a hepcat, you may want to add some zing to your ensemble.

What Are Some of the Special Features?

From the moment you enter the park, you’ll be surrounded by the sights and sounds of yesteryear, including horse-drawn trolleys, old-time tunes and the most fashion-savvy collection of people you have ever seen. A classic barbershop quartet called the Dapper Dans serenades guests as well. You may even see a famous mouse or two dressed in their Sunday finest roaming the streets.

One of the biggest crowd-pleasers is the Expo, where you can browse a large collection of vintage accessories, clothing, home decor and beauty products. Another main attraction is the elegant lunch and lawn party, which consists of dining, dancing and games in the private gardens of the Disneyland Hotel. To continue the old-fashioned antics, be sure to take a ride on the Mark Twain Riverboat or hop on the King Arthur Carousel for a dapper derby.

Where Are the Best Photo Opportunities?

Any area in the Disney realm is ideal for posing in your favorite vintage duds. If a particular land inspired your outfit, make that your stage. Strike some poses that illustrate the blast-from-the-past vibe. We’ve collected various creative photos from DAPPER DAY attendees to give you a starting point. We’d like to thank everyone who agreed to share their extraordinary memories. The power of Disney is in the smiles of its guests, and these photos are evidence of the park’s magic.
